Careers
Expert work, offered per assignment.
I Am Violet Inc., doing business as Metis Foundry, is an early-stage Los Angeles company founded in 2026. We build software that checks claims (a company’s registration, a researcher’s publication record, a professional licence) against the official body that issues them, and routes the hard cases to verified human experts.
We pay for the best people, because every decision we deliver carries the reviewer’s verified credentials. We hire U.S.-based experts for remote, part-time, assignment-based work.

How the work is offered
- Work is offered per assignment when customer projects are funded; there are no guaranteed hours; you choose which assignments to accept. When there is no assignment, there is no work and no pay obligation.
- Each offer states the task, an estimated time, the deadline and your hourly rate. Accept or decline it with no penalty.
- You are paid for every hour you work on an accepted assignment, including any time beyond the estimate, with a minimum of one paid hour per accepted assignment.
- Training, the qualification assessment and quality-check tasks are paid at your rate.
- Part-time W-2 employment, not gig or 1099 work: your employer is I Am Violet Inc. (dba Metis Foundry), and you are paid through our payroll provider. Variable hours, with no on-call duty and no scheduled shifts.
- Where we are: we are building our expert pool now. Onboarding and the paid qualification assessment begin when the first customer projects are funded, and we will tell you honestly when that is.
Pay
- Each role lists its hourly pay range (W-2). Pay is hourly, for all time worked. It is never per piece.
- Quality bonus: an extra 15% of your pay for an assignment’s hours when your accuracy on its answer-keyed check items is at least 95% and none of your decisions on it is reversed in our second review. It is paid with your regular pay on the next payday.
- Hard-to-fill assignments may carry a premium of up to 25%, stated in the offer before you accept it.
- The range is the pay we reasonably expect to offer. Everyone at the same level starts at the same rate.
- Benefits: paid sick leave as required by law; workers’ compensation; reimbursement of necessary remote-work expenses. Any other benefits are stated in the offer.
Location and eligibility
- Must reside in and perform all work from within the United States; U.S. work authorization required.
- You must be authorized to work in the United States for the full period of each assignment. We do not sponsor visas.
- F-1 students may apply only with CPT or OPT authorization that covers this work. Please check with your international student office first.
- If you hold a university appointment, fellowship or assistantship, you are responsible for confirming that it allows outside paid work. Metis work must not use university time, equipment or confidential information.
- A background check is run only for roles or assignments that need one, after a conditional offer and with your written authorization.
- Export-controlled or defence assignments only: Must be a U.S. person (citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) per ITAR 22 CFR 120.62. Status is confirmed after an offer.
How we verify
- We check your degree or enrollment, and your professional credentials, with the bodies that issue them. We do this only with your written consent.
- We verify your identity.
- You take a paid qualification assessment in your field; the passing score is 95%.
- All work happens inside the secure Metis portal: no downloads, no personal AI tools on customer material, and no direct contact with customers.
- Your decisions are delivered under a Metis reviewer ID together with your verified credentials. Your name is shown only with your written consent.
How to apply
Choose a role above and apply online. You choose how you are interviewed: by voice (with live captions) or in writing with Themis, Metis Foundry’s AI interviewer, or with a person, with no penalty either way. A person makes every decision and reviews every interview within 10 business days. How the AI interview works.
Or email paul@rocketship.co with the subject “Application: <role>” (for example, “Application: Expert Reviewer, Research Integrity”). Attach your CV and list your credential identifiers (ORCID iD, DOIs, a licence or bar admission and its state, CPA, CAMS, CFE or CFA details, a certification and its issuer, and so on).
Please don’t send your Social Security number, bank details, date of birth, transcripts, photos of ID documents, health information, or anything confidential that belongs to a current or former employer, client or university. We will ask for your consent before any verification.
Don’t see your field?
If you are a credentialed expert whose field has no role of its own above, apply to the Metis Expert Network, or send an open application. We will contact you when a funded assignment needs your expertise.
Equal opportunity
I Am Violet Inc. (dba Metis Foundry) is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, citizenship or immigration status (except where a law, regulation, executive order or government contract requires otherwise), age, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, veteran or military status, or any other status protected by law.
We will consider qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records in accordance with the California Fair Chance Act and the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance.
We provide reasonable accommodations in the application process and the qualification assessment; email paul@rocketship.co with the subject “Accommodation request”.
A person reads every application and makes every decision. If you choose, Themis, Metis Foundry’s AI interviewer, interviews you by voice or in writing and, only with your separate permission, gives the hiring team advisory scores against a written, job-related rubric and a written summary with a recommendation. No application is screened out, rejected or advanced automatically, and you can choose an interview with a person instead, with no penalty. How the AI interview works.
Applicant privacy notice
Who we are
I Am Violet Inc., a Delaware corporation doing business as Metis Foundry, is responsible for your application information. Contact: paul@rocketship.co, subject “Applicant privacy request”. We give this notice to every applicant, whether or not a particular privacy law applies to us.
What we collect
- Identifiers and contact details: your name, email address, phone number, and the city and state where you live.
- Professional and employment information: your CV, work history, licences and certifications, and credential identifiers such as an ORCID iD, DOIs, NPI, CPA licence number, bar number or FAA certificate number.
- Education information: degrees or enrollment and institutions. You may leave graduation and attendance dates off your CV.
- Anything else you choose to include in your email or attachments.
- If you apply on careers.metisfoundry.com: whether you live in New York City, your main field and any credentials you list, your answers to the eligibility questions, the country your connection comes from when you submit (not your IP address), your interview answers (typed, or transcribed to text from what you say in a voice interview; we keep no audio recording), which of our equivalent question versions you were asked, your consent choices, any advisory scores, recommendation and their reasons, and any requests you make.
- Only if we move forward, and always with your knowledge and consent: an identity-verification result; the results of degree and credential checks with the bodies that issued them; your qualification-assessment result; for roles or assignments that need it, a background check (with a separate disclosure and your written authorization); and for export-controlled assignments, confirmation of U.S.-person status. Work-authorization (Form I-9) and payroll details are collected by our payroll provider, not stored by us.
Why we use it
- To evaluate your application for the role you applied for and for similar roles.
- If you choose the AI interview: to run a structured interview by voice or in writing and, only with your permission, to produce advisory scores and a written recommendation that a person reads alongside your answers.
- To verify your identity and your credentials with the bodies that issued them.
- To contact you about your application.
- To comply with the law, including employment-record, equal-opportunity and export-control rules.
- If you are hired, to administer your employment.
AI interviewer (Themis)
- Themis is an AI system (Anthropic’s Claude model; in a voice interview it speaks with a stock synthetic voice). It tells you it is an AI at the start and asks your permission to transcribe before asking any question. In a voice interview you answer by pressing “Yes, transcribe” before your microphone is turned on; nothing you say is transcribed before that. If you say no, you can type instead or have a person interview you, with no penalty.
- In a voice interview your speech is converted to text as you speak, and Themis’s questions are shown as captions. Only the words are kept: we keep no audio recording, and your voice, tone, accent and emotions are never analysed. We do not create a voiceprint or any other biometric identifier. You can switch to typing, or ask for a person, at any time.
- Every candidate for a role is asked about the same six topics, in the same order, and assessed against the same written rubric. The scenarios differ from interview to interview (equivalent versions of equal difficulty, with made-up names and figures) so questions cannot be passed around; we record which version you were asked so that a person can check fairness.
- Only with your separate permission does Themis score your answers from 0 to 4 on job-related criteria (domain knowledge, a practical scenario, evidence and documentation, escalation judgement, confidentiality practice and relevant credentials) and write a short advisory summary for the hiring team with a recommendation (advance, hold, or talk to a person first), quoting your own words. Your name, pronouns and contact details are removed before scoring; spelling, grammar, style, speed, length, voice and accent are not scored.
- Scores and recommendations are advisory. Paul Krzemuski (CEO) or Daniel Maronde (CTO) reads your answers and decides, usually within 10 business days. You can turn scoring off, ask for a human review, correct your information, ask for a copy of your scores and recommendation and how they were produced, or ask for an accommodation at any time, from your private link or by email.
- If you live in New York City, your answers are not scored or summarized automatically; a person reviews them. We do not use video interviews.
- Your answers are processed by Anthropic, through OpenRouter, only to run the interview, scoring and summary, with data collection for model training turned off; they are not used to train AI models. In a voice interview, LiveKit carries the audio and its speech providers (for example Deepgram for speech-to-text and Cartesia for Themis’s voice) convert speech to text and text to speech. We keep no audio, and we have turned off session recording and the speech-to-text provider’s model-improvement program; the providers’ own retention terms apply.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell applicant information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.
- Themis's advisory scores and written recommendation are produced by an automated system. They never screen out or reject anyone on their own: a person reads every application and makes every decision, and you can turn scoring off or choose a person instead. We never use video, voice, face, emotion or personality analysis (a voice interview uses only the words you say, converted to text), and nothing about protected characteristics is scored.
- We do not use applicant information to train AI models.
Who receives it
Our company email provider; Cloudflare, which hosts careers.metisfoundry.com and stores its records; Anthropic and OpenRouter, which process interview answers for Themis (only if you choose the AI interview); LiveKit and its speech providers, which carry a voice interview and convert speech to text and text to speech (only if you choose the voice interview); and, if we move forward, the service providers that help us verify identity, check degrees and credentials, run a background check where one is required, and run payroll. Each may use it only to provide that service to us. We disclose it to authorities only when the law requires.
How long we keep it
Four years from when we receive your application or take an employment action, the period California law (Gov. Code §12946) sets for employment records. Then we delete it. If you are hired, your records are kept under our employee-records policy.
If you ask us to delete your application, we stop using it at once and lock it away: no one on the hiring team can open it, and it is excluded from every list, score and decision. We delete it when the four-year period the law requires ends, or sooner if the law allows.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you can ask to know what personal information we hold about you and how we use it, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it (subject to the legal retention period above), and to limit the use of sensitive personal information. We will not retaliate against you for making a request.
To make a request, email paul@rocketship.co with the subject “Applicant privacy request”. We verify a request by matching it to the email address you applied from. An authorised agent may make a request for you with your signed permission.
Security
Applications made on careers.metisfoundry.com are encrypted (AES-256) before they are stored, and only the two decision-makers can open them; every access is logged. Email applications are kept in access-restricted company accounts. Please don’t send the sensitive items listed under “How to apply”.
Changes
We will update this notice when our practices change. Last updated 27 September 2026 (voice interview, varied equivalent questions and the advisory recommendation added).
